KEY STAGE ONE: Years 1 and 2
All of the children follow a broad and balanced curriculum in line with the revised Primary Curriculum for the United Kingdom. Each student receives lessons in English-including specific Guided Reading , Maths, Science, Geography, History and P.S.H.E. The children then go to specialist teachers for P.E, Art, Music, Arabic and Social Studies. Muslims will study Islamic Studies. Children of other faiths will follow a programme in Religious Education or Citizenship Studies (Value Education).
Particular emphasis is placed on the acquisition of early language and reading skills through the use of a structured phonics programme.
All children will also have designated “Class Time” periods where the class teacher will have the opportunity to carry out Circle Time activities, team building activities or preparations for assemblies or programmes
KEY STAGE TWO: Years 3, 4, 5 and 6
In Key Stage Two the school follows the Edexcel International Primary Curriculum for English, Maths and Science. This syllabus provides an international benchmark of achievement with certification at the end of Year 6. It is kept regularly up to date and is being currently being revised to accommodate the changes in the Revised British Primary Curriculum, statutory in the U.K. from September 2014.
In addition students study History, Geography, ICT, Music, Art , P.E, French, Arabic and Social Studies. Muslims will study Islamic Studies. Children of other faiths will follow a programme in Religious Education or Citizenship Studies (Value Education).
In addition, children will engage in Class Time/Circle Time, which is a non-academic learning period during the week which focuses on developing the personal, social and emotional skills of each child. The Class/Circle Time teacher becomes a special point of reference, much like a guidance counsellor, for the group of children entrusted to her care.
